It's odd the KOM spokesperson talks about vows of poverty meaning one doesn't buy a Rolls Royce. Guess which car Fra Bertie drove?

He drove a Fiat 131. I was at school and he was one of my teachers. Before he joined the Order things might have been different.

"After working as a financial journalist in the City, he taught French and Spanish at Worth School in Sussex, where he intrigued the boys by driving a Rolls-Royce."

Yes Badum, I heard that he had a Rolls Royce but during my time at the school, in the late 1970s, he drove a Fiat. I never saw the Rolls.
Do not assume that you get all the facts from The Telegraph or any other newspaper. The obituary does not mention that he taught other languages such as Russian and it does not mention that he taught judo and fencing. The newspaper is selective in what it reports both for reasons of space and, it seems, not to offend advertisers such as HSBC. The fact that he drove a Fiat is unlikely to interest readers and so is not reported.
I suspect that the change in car arose as he took the requirements of the Order seriously.
Sorry Father to belabour the point. I had hoped that my shorter comment before would have been sufficient.
