On a day of mixed emotions for me, I say thank you thrice, Father. This is one of my all-time favourite pieces (often played) and taken at a dignified tempo by Claudio Abbado. I have always loved the mix of soprano and alto and am really sad that current fashion dictates the countertenor wins over the contralto. How could one listen to the rich timbre of alto Lucia Valentini in this duet and not weep for the Sorrows of Our lady.

Thank you, father, for letting us hear this beautiful movement from the Stabat Mater and see the traditional images of the Virgo Dolorosa. A perfect end to the day, returning from a penitential service. Are the images from Spain?
