Nights filled with sex and alcohol

"I was wasting my life dancing for men in clubs. The nights were filled with sex and alcohol. It was an empty life but I liked it because I was the centre of attention", said Sr Nobili. "But now my life has been transformed," she told La Repubblica. "I still dance but now I dance for God and I'm happy. All my choreography is dedicated to Him. My aim is to pray using my body."

According to the Telegraph she swapped string bikinis and high heels for a nun's habit after a visit to the shrine of St Francis in Assisi.

I'm happy for her...but if she comes on the altar and starts dancing at the consecration, I'd politely tell her, "Oi, Sister! No! I think its marvellous that a visit to the Holy Shrine of St Francis of Assisi led to your renouncing lapdancing and performing dance in sex bars, and that now you dance for God like King David and all the other chaps did around the Holy Ark of the Covenant. It's wonderful. But please, please, please...don't do it on the Altar!

Fr Ray! You should put an explicit warning for us sensitive types! lol

Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. I hope the Mother Superior can help her out on the dancing front with the provision of a few chords!

Fr. Ray,

It just goes to show that the path away from God is circular, not a straight line -- if you retreat from Him, you end up bumping into Him again.

To me this reflects the spiritual shallowness that many of our religious and senior religious have fallen into. Tell me where is the focus of attention in this video?.

To me it is on Sr. Anna not Our Lord. I would be a great deal more impressed by Sr. Anna's conversion story if she put as much energy as this into promoting Eucharistic adoration. To me she's still got that "centre of attenion" problem which was probably behind her former life.

Our senior religious seem to have lost the plot. They regularly mistake the secular for the sacred and it makes me wonder how many of them are in a state of grace.

Father, what is the intent of this article? Is it so the majority of your readers can criticize her by way of making liturgical dancing jokes or is it to proclaim the glory of God?

Fr Ray Blake said...

The intent? good point.

My intention was to point to a lap dancers reformation.
I don't have too much of a problem with dance outside of the liturgy. Prefer her to do it Church or at a religious event than a lap dancing club.
My intent? being provocative.

'a lap dancers reformation' presumably not to be confused with 'a lapdancers re-formation' which perhaps wouldn't be such a good thing.

I think she looks rather wonderful.

Good for her.

Mafeking,

I don't think you should judge anything about her considering the scope of the article says nothing about her own personal devotions or endeavors within her religious community. I think it is a rather shallow move on your part to be prejudice against her because she is performing a dance. For all we know, with the information given, is that she has a great devotion to the Eucharist (which I presume she does) or she has other greater devotions and practices that are not center around herself.

To imply that she has retained her "self-centeredness" based off of this article and a singular video is uncharitable.

But, then again, let him without sin throw the first stone.

Father, I enjoyed the article and conversion story and her desire for God. I also hope she doesn't do any liturgical dancing.

Please tell me she's not doing liturgical dancing....ARRRGHHHH. I really don't mind if she dances around her cell, or skips in the garden, but just the thought of any liturgical dance gives me a pain in the tush.

And I thought this post was about weekend night-life in Brighton!

You are pompous. Your comments seem to me to be deliberately provocative so I'm not going to bother to reply to them. Dialoguing with people like you on the internet is always a mistake.

Fr. Ray

Please allow me some comeback on this one. If you don't accept the last comment, how about this ...

Be as rude as you like. My comment stands as it is. I'll let other people decide on the merits of it. It is after all what a forum like this for.

USLawStudent said...

Rude...I didn't seem to be the one read an article and watched a video and concluded that Sr. Anna still had problems of formation with her own pride or self-centeredness.

I was just pointing out that I thought that was rather uncharitable and uncalled for.

Enough, Mafeking, it is Holy Week.

That video is probably the saddest thing I've ever seen, demonstrating the complete moral decadence of Western Civilization.
