Without misgiving or restraint

A group of journalists, politicians and dissident Catholics, clerical and lay, attack the Pope.

At times one gets the impression that our society needs to have at least one group to which no tolerance may be shown; which one can easily attack and hate. And should someone dare to approach them – in this case the Pope – he too loses any right to tolerance; he too can be treated hatefully, without misgiving or restraint.

It’s a sorry tale, but one which could have been avoided.
Trip to Africa = AIDS
AIDS = condoms
Condoms = we know already what the Pope will say = easy headline.
If Vatican officials couldn’t see that one coming they should have been shown the exit door without a parachute.
On a foreign trip journalists would have been asked to submit their questions in advance to Fr. Lombardi. I assume it’s him standing with a sheaf of papers (the questions?) beside the Pope on the plane.
That means there was ample time to get the ducks in a row on this topic. It’s been made worse by an apparent and grossly clumsy attempt to explain what the Pope really meant by altering his quotes.
It’s no good being wise after the event. Journalists are amoral. They’ll clutch at anything which will make a headline. That’s their job. Their loyalty is to their editor and if the editor wants them to “big it up” that’s what they do and move on to the next headline-grabbing “scandal”.
Anywhere, anytime sex, being the new religion, is always going to trump stories of more worth, whether it involves the Pope or not. The western media is obsessed by it.
It is a mystery to me why, with all its sophistication, the Vatican keeps tripping over the simplest obstacles.
I am cupping my ear for the resounding defence of the Pope by the hierarchy around the world. Is anybody there?

If he wasn't doing something good, nobody would bother attacking him, least of all Satan.
God Bless our Pope, every family should say the Our Father daily for Pope Benedict and a daily prayer for their Parish Priest.

Right! I'm sure our great 'German Shepherd' is quaking in his boots (not).

Pope Benedict is not phased or surprised in any which way by these almost to be expected 'attacks' by complete ignoramuses and imbeciliums who really should know better but have chosen to worship mammon.

Remember folks the 'war has been won' by the blood of our Redeemer. The skirmishes and battles will continue till the end of time as satan tries to gather as many souls as will follow him to hell.

Meanwhile, to help strengthen our Pope we must pray for him all the more. God Bless our Pope!

This is all good. At last we are annoying people again. 'If they hated me, they will hate you'. They crucified Our Lord the first time round, and if he came back again they would crucify Him all over again. Good for the Pope.

St. Peter, pray for us, and especially for the Holy father

The holy father shows the courage of a successor to the Apostles - the truth is taught in and out of season - he is an example for all bishops not to court affirmation from the world but to teach what is necessary for salvation. It always surpises me that non catholics know what the church teaches whilst "catholic" in large numbers reject church teachings as being too demanding on them. The Church demands only what is necessary for our salvation it cannot change what is true.

If condoms were actually safe the abortionists would be redundant, proof enough that they are worthless in the fight against AIDS.

The manufacturers are huge multinational companies and ABORTION CLINICS are a massive growth industry.

They get plenty of free advertising from the garbage press.

At Matins/the Office of Readings on Holy Saturday the Church gives us this 'ancient homily', I find it incredibly moving, it is abou...
