Gosh! a saint from the parish

I had an email this morning from Rome...

.......we would like to get some information, if it is possible, about one of our Sister (Nun), born in London on 10th September 1887, and baptised “sub conditione” in your Parish St. Mary Magdeline on 6th May 1891 with the name Madaleina Catherine (Katherine) Maria Clarice BEAUCHAMP HAMBROUGH, daughter of Mr. Windsor John and Mrs. Louise Frances Fisher.
And that is: from the Parish record shows that she was baptised “sub conditione” for the fact that at her birth were she baptized in the Anglican Church? Also were the parents received baptism “sub conditione” in the Catholic Church? We would appreciate very much any information you may have about her or her family.
Since we have introduced the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of the above mentioned Sister, this information is very important to us.
Thanking you in advance for all that you could provide with.
Wish you every blessings of the Lord
.........

Pray, pray, pray!

Very interesting as of course your church was in Southwark Diocese until 1966. However one vital piece of information is missing which might help Southwark in digging up information and that is the name of the religious order of which she was a member. We have files on all the orders and materials relevant to them are stil here, though possibly some are in your own diocesan archive as well.

Fr:

What astoundingly wonderful news for you and your parish.

I will add a prayer for the cause to my Rosary intentions and will seek the intercession of the servant of God for the our Holy Father Benedict and for the succcess of the Petition in his support.

Last time I looked the numbers had more than doubled overnight.

Cool! [And I shouldn't be surprised but I am, that the Vatican uses email for such things now instead of a registered letter. But then I've heard horror tales about the Italian post.]

Do you know anything about her?

That's marvellous news! Let's pray for her beatification and that she may pray for St Mary Magdalen's!

Would you like to forward this weblink which contains references to the marriage of her parents in 1877, and to her father's birth certificate. You need to scroll to the bottom of the page - it's a long list of property transactions and wills, with lots of her relatives in. Looks like they were quite posh. Also their names are slightly different. You, Father will have the added joy of translating the baptismal certificate from Latin. I know my grandparents were referred to as Isabellam and Danielam on their marriage cert - translations from English to Latin were a little...ad hoc.

It looks like Sister M Richard Beauchamp-Hambrugh was a Brigittine. Maybe of Devon? or Ireland?

Having outed myself as a complete neek, I shall now return to my marking. I hope this is of use to Rome.
