Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

A nice little video on Lourdes I found on Busted Halo, by James Martin, SJ.

Thank you for the reference to the site 'Busted Halo'. I do like the title!

There are some interesting questions and answers there together with comments. Several people tell why they have decided to leave the Church with some strange reasons which make for sad reading.

One man says that both he and his wife have decided to leave the church after 60 years and one of
the reasons given is that in their church bulletin it gives the notice required before marriage as 6 months whereas for the Hispanics in the parish it gives 6 weeks and the Bishop of the diocese gives 4 months!

I would have thought a query to the priest would have clarified this - it does seem an extraordinary reason to leave the Church.

I imagine the 6 weeks was a mistranslation by someone and the 4 could be a typing error!

A Happy Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes to you Father, and to Fr Martin. And grateful thanks for the opportunity of being able to sing the Lourdes hymn today - wonderful!

Dear Fr.,
Thank you for helping us to celebrate today's Feast with this video.. May it also help us to 'keep true to (our) vision'.

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing Fr. Stephen Martin's first experience of the 1943 film, The Song of Bernadette.

It is a fine piece of drama. As with almost all dramatisations, it occasionally takes liberties with the facts. The Dean of Lourdes did not, as portrayed in the film, visit Bernadette on her deathbed, having died several years before ! It is nevertheless an inspiring film.

I would mention the 1988 film by Jean Dellanoy. I remember Fr. Tim Finigan gave it an honourable
mention on his blog (a rather long while ago).

Of course, the earlier fim gained great publicity for the story of St. Bernadette and Our Lady of Lourdes, while the later film is a more accurate portrayal.

I would say, watch both !
