LOOK, no standing, no hands

I heard a rumour, which I dismmissed, that there was serious discussion in Rome about no renewing the indult to distribute Holy Communion in the hand, but look here, and the remember the coverage given by L'Osservatore Romano to the book by Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Karaganda, Kazakhstan

AND HERE IS THE VIDEO

I received my First Holy Communion kneeling, on the tongue. As a child, I thought that was the rule and it would always be like that. My spiritual director, a kindly Irish nun, told me not to chew the Holy Host or let it touch my teeth. In the 70s, all of that seemed to change and I began to see people chomping away and receiving on the hand; I followed suit. It took me a couple of decades to find the courage to open my mouth again. Now it just comes naturally. To me receiving on the tongue is a more direct Communion. Very intimate. The surrender is greater. My hands, my will, are out of the way.

Ah well ! Holy Communion as it should be distributed , and always was distributed before "the changes".

But look how reverent it is ! Everything about this traditional practice emphasises the true nature of the Eucharist. It is the very Body of Christ, touched only by the anointed hands of the priest.

Communicants aren't taking the Eucharist from the priest. They are receiving it from him.

And that is how it should be everywhere.

Bleessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar.

Here is a suggestion.

I would urge all readers to ask their parish priests to provide a pre-dieu for the reception of Holy Communion whilst kneeling. In most cases, it could be placed in front of the sanctuary without any difficulty.

Of course, this would not be necessary in churches where the Communion rails have been retained.

Beautiful, the day is coming when that indult will be removed :).

My PP and I are conspiring to get money from the Parish Council to build a communion rail that I designed. Unfortunatly our old communion rail was not only removed but tossed several years after its removal.

Recently we moved the choir to the rear of the Church and put the Altar back into the sanctuary. Soon we hope to return to using the high altar on the wall, but until then our fomer pulpit coverd with plywood will remain as the altar... Its really sad what was done to my parish in the 70s and 80s
