Pray for them

One of the priests from our diocese was convicted of abusing two brothers between 1975 and 1982. Yesterday he was sentenced to sixteen years imprisonment. Do pray for the victims and for him.

I see so many people whose lives are ruined by sexual abuse normally within the family.

I say a prayer regularly for a man I knew years ago who married an older woman, who he thought was unlikely to bear children. When she became pregnant he became more and depressed and started behaving irrationally. Eventually he killed himself. It was only after the funeral one of his family told me, that he had been abused by his mother, who had herself been forced into prostitution as a child. He was terrified he would repeat what had happend to him.
A friend of mine at seminary had a younger brother who committed suicide. It was then discovered after his death that he had been systematically abused by someone outside his family but the knowledge of this destroyed the family.

Several people have commented, sharing their experiences, which are very moving, I shall remember you at the altar tomorrow.

Others have shared their observations, on the whole it is best to pray for those concerned therefore I have turned off comments on this post
