Photographs from the Phanar

















The Phanar is the Patriarch's enclave that was at the centre of the old Greek quarter of Istanbul, now the number of Greeks is tiny, driven out by Turkish oppression. The Church too is very small, smaller than this Church, St Mary Magdalen's, a congregation of 200 and it would be crowded.
